Title:

Beyond the Hype: Does Your PR Agency "Get" Social Media

Your vote:
Yes No
Organizer:
Erik Deutsch, ExcelPR Group
Description:
Knowing a few buzzwords or how to get a vanity URL doesn't make someone a social media expert. Yet many PR pros try to spin such basic knowledge to position themselves as capable of executing hard-core social media strategies. This presentation will teach you how to determine if a PR agency or consultant can really deliver the goods.
Questions
Answered:
  1. What social media services do clients want from their PR agency?
  2. What type of services are most PR agencies really equipped to deliver?
  3. What makes an agency competent in social media?
  4. What is social media PR?
  5. Can expertise in "traditional" PR translate to social media?
  6. How can you tell a genuine expert from a self-proclaimed "guru," "maven," etc?
  7. What questions should you ask to determine if a PR firm is social media savvy?
  8. How do social media tactics mesh with "traditional" PR?
  9. How do you measure your PR agency's social media ROI?
  10. What types of social media outreach should not be delegated to a PR agency?

I think this is a great idea for a panel. i have tried to find a PR company that would delve into my issues as I grow my Business and site. Although my business is not typical Social Media, I would like to know how PR can help get the word out with web related business structures..

How refreshing to see a panel about getting beyond all the social media PR hype. With so much information on the web about how to pick a PR agency, I’m really looking forward to demystifying the process. Would be great if this panel made it to the final lineup.

Let's face it- if you don't have some good PR, nobody will ever know how good you are at what you do. This is a great panel. As a former SXSW attendee (both film and music)- I would definitely go to this panel. And I would especially go because of Erik. He is smart and specifically good at his job....and he is easy to talk with.

Our company is going through the process of finding a new PR agency, so we need this info ASAP. But we'll still be searching when SXSW comes around given the way things are going :) It's clear that agencies are inflating their credentials, so it's great to see panels like this.

This should be worthwhile. No "gurus" or "mavens" allowed!

Thanks for all the great feedback, both about the topic and me personally -- please let me know where to write the checks :) This is an issue that I'm very passionate about, and one that deserves some serious discussion.

Erik's ability to navigate the social media platforms and use it to target users likely to click through to his clients entities is unsurpassed. As an experienced and successful publicist in both new and old media, Erik is a perfect panelist to add to this very important discussion.
