Description:
If we can learn as much - or more - from our failures as community builders as our successes, then why are we reluctant to share tales of social media projects which haven't gone well? In this workshop we'll discuss what doesn't work and why we often... won't discuss it.
Questions
Answered:
  1. Why do people who communicate for a living... fail to communicate about failure?
  2. What is the definition of a "failed community"?
  3. Why is it important to set goals?
  4. What are realistic goals for a new community?
  5. Why does one-size-fits-all not actually fit all?
  6. How can community managers hone their listening skills?
  7. When is too much of a good thing... too much?
  8. How do you engage users - and clients - when they're not excited?
  9. Why do community managers sometimes get tunnel vision?
  10. How do you turn the failboat around?

I totally want to attend this. In 2001, I tried to create a social networking site for people who enjoyed processed pork products. I launched http://www.cannedhamworld.com in September of 2001 and it died a quiet but lonely death two months later. I probably should not have chosen Yom Kippur as the day to go live. Timing is everything they say.
