RSS Is Dead! Viva La Twitter!

Your vote:
Yes No
Organizer:
CK Thurber, OneSpot
Description:
Twitter has dominated pop culture and the news this past year, becoming the platform for gossip and information alike. In an era where everyone gets their must-click links from "friends," is RSS obsolete? And has Twitter become too fast for major media news (i.e. CNN v. Irani Election)?
Questions
Answered:
  1. What is the state of Twitter today?
  2. How has Twitter changed over the past year? Six months?
  3. What makes Twitter so special as a social media platform?
  4. What challenges has Twitter faced this past year?
  5. Why did some major media outlets embrace Twitter in early 2009? Was it the Ashton/Oprah factor?
  6. What (if any) will replace Twitter as the new news platform?
  7. Why has RSS failed to catch on?
  8. What strategies are major media outlets working on to keep pace with Twitter?
  9. Will RSS survive as a Twitter tool or will users become sick of the RSS-push to Twitter?
  10. Can Twitter survive without major media intervention/investment?

Twitter is vastly becoming the first place users go for news and information. In an era when readers check their twitter feeds before scoping NYTimes, USA Today, WSJ, and other major papers, how can content creators be found and monetize their work? Is there such thing as 'newspaper brand loyalty in this new model? Does it matter now where the story comes from? This panel will invite CK Thurber – Dir. Social Media Marketing at OneSpot (5 twitter accounts), Guy Kawasaki - Alltop, and senior representatives from NYTimes, Hearst, Twitter, and CNN (no guarantees CNN will not duke it out with Twitter!)

I don't believe it. RSS is not mainstream, but neither is Twitter. In fact, RSS continues to do rather well (even based on our analytics at PostRank). For that reason.. +1! Will be a fun one.

I would love to see this contrasted against what was once known as Slashdot effect, later Digg effect, and now... Oprah?
