Title:

How To Unplan Your Business Idea

Your vote:
Yes No

Ian Sanders, The Ian Sanders Company
Description:
The notion that every business needs a detailed plan is broken. If you’re launching a business it’s more important to put your ideas into action and not over-strategise. Online tools mean you can launch a business faster than you can build a theoretical model. So unplan and just do it.

Thanks for checking out 'How To Unplan Your Business Idea".
I made my first visit to SXSW this year and co-hosted a 'Core Conversation' with Melissa Pierce called 'Is the Planned Life Even Worth Living?'. I'm passionate about new ideas in business and I'm author of 'Juggle! Rethink Work, Reclaim Your Life' and 'Leap! Ditch Your Job, Start Your Own Business & Set Yourself Free'. Now more than ever, I think it's much more important to implement a business idea, than have a deep and detailed plan. My co-host for this session is a fellow Brit - David Sloly. David has a fascinating career story: he's written books, he's produced award winning radio programmes for Kiss FM and BBC radio, he's worked in television, he's DJ'd and now he is Creative Director of an intergrated digital marketing agency in the UK plus he's a psychotherapist in his spare time! We hope to see you in Austin, Texas in 2010!

Hi, My names is David Sloly and I will be one of the speakers along with Ian Sanders. I have worked with many companies in the past helping them set out goals and achieve them. What's been interesting is seeing how the internet has changed the way small businesses are launched, how they can be developed quickly, tested efficiently and then turn a smart profit. The new tools are easy to use and the new thinking is simple to grasp. Ian and I both hope we will get the opportunity to share some of this fresh thinking with you. Kind regards David Sloly.

A bit more information about me and David Sloly:

I am is a writer, ideas-guy and business & marketing consultant. Throughout my business life I have eschewed traditional business practice of making detailed strategic plans and instead have advocated a ‘just do it’ philosophy as the only way of succeeding in this fast changing world. I know that adaptability is one of the most necessary tools in small business today. This idea sounds like it is integrating adaptability right from the start! Brilliant!

Great to see another business panel that shows real world experience. Lots of people let planning get in their way of doing, and I think Ian can help folks move past that.

Hey Ian! Wow. Reminds me how energized I was by last year's SXSWi. Looks like a great proposal. Reminds me of this quote which I seem to be successfully living by:

"In the [familiar] measurement world, you set a goal and strive for it. In the universe of possibility, you set the context and let life unfold." -R.S. and B. Zander, The Art of Possibility

Hope to see you soon!

A special thank you to everyone that has taken the time to vote and leave comments. As some of you may already know i have always been a firm believer in action and now it is clear that ideas can be tested faster than ever before and for less money. So i hope, with all your support, Ian and I will get the opportunity to share this presentation with a wider audience. Many thanks. David Sloly
