The low cost part covers reuse of USB keyboards and mice as the starting point for your new peripherals, using wireless keyboards/mice gets your new peripherals untethered from your computer/installation.
Low fi shows you how to make buttons and other controls quick and easy from materials available at hardware stores. Other cheap to build controls covered will be things like level sensors, magnetic reed switches and pressure switches.
