In my experience, this has been a huge challenge. Effectively spreading these technologies would be a huge (and lucrative) win for our industry. Very smart topic idea.

Good topic. I heard Shashi talk about this once at a local unconference. VERY good topic...lessons learned to take back and school your boss.

Thanks Micheal and Ken.

I work with a great deal of companies that are trying to make the move - a big road block is selling the idea on the boss. I think this would be a pretty decent panel....good info, I'd attend.

Odds are my employer won't send me to SXSW and this will be my vacation, but I want to go nonetheless.

Shashi has first hand experience in accomplishing this. He has some great ideas that are not effective, but they worked! I look forward to it.

;) Connie thanks ! This is a great example of how we encourage our team members to be tranparent and give their opinions in public :) LOL

Excellent, I try to promote social media when possible. I may have to use that to try to make it a easier sell

Anything Shashi is doing most be wonderful. If he's speaking, I would go see it.

Working with Shashi as a contractor, I can say that he has cultivated great relationships with the chain of command. He is even in good with the lawyers. This is a must attend session.

This is a very good & important topic and Shashi is the perfect presenter and organizer for such a panel. He has the ideas and the experience. I'm looking forward to it.

What?
What is this?
The Social Media Swami seeks to host a SXSW panel??

Perfect!

Knowing how to sell the benefit of social media to 1.0s remains a big need. You've taught me plenty on this in DC (thanks!). And your panel would be a strong asset to the SXSW program.

I'd move mountains to hear Shashi; he's the ultimate connector.

i think this is a great idea for a panel. Actionable ideas to initiate a real social media strategy for companies large and small. It's one thing to talk the talk, but another to walk the walk. When real money is on the table, you need an actionable plan to execute your social media strategy.

I agree with Jill, Connie, Nahum and others that this is a great idea for a panel from a person, Shashi who is the very best to lead it. I'm just sorry that I can not be there in person.

This is a FANTASTIC idea! Can't wait to be there. How cool!

Including lawyers? Wow, now I want to see this.... ;-)

yea, this should be a good one.

This should be an extremely relevant topic for attendees, easy 5-star vote!

I've always enjoyed your sessions and would definitely attend!

I attended Shashi's talk on this subject in Bangalore earlier this month. Was really impressed with the amount of knowledge that he has and the depth of his understanding of it. Anything that he says on this subject would be interesting aND RELEVANT.
Shashi, great idea. I'm always looking for ways to teach people how their old-media skills translate to the new-media world. Many seem scared to try new things, most -I think- because of fear of the unknown. It's up to us to lead the way. 5-stars!

This sounds like one of those panels that you walk away with useful information that can be put into practice as soon as you get home from Austin. Voting for it and can't wait to see it!

Shashi has lived this challenge first-hand with a larger, more established market player. 'Should prove to be a great session with practical applications for its attendees.

Thanks everyone for your votes and the feedback through the comments. The panel will be finalized if this idea is selected . I discussed this idea woth several folks and got good feedback on this subject and many may agree to be on the panel. keeo your fingers crossed :)

This one is extremely timely. There are so many pitfalls with getting upper management to buy into social media---either they expect too much, or are scared, or get pitched a bunch of snake oil from vendors, or....The list of challenges goes on and on. This sounds like a good one.
on 30/8/08
Great idea. It's hard for big corporations to figure this all out and Shashi I'm sure can tell us how to get it done!
