Description:
Social media healthcare means a revolution in consumer-driven and patient-focused content delivery. The convergence of click-and-mortar youth culture trends, coupled with Search2.0 is yielding a new generation of advocate, fostering social enterprise to drive change in a broken public healthcare system.

I'm 33 years old and was diagnosed with Hodgkin's in January. I was devastated hearing this was happening to me and sought out several organizations for support. I was the youngest person in the support groups I attended by 20+ years and it wasn't until I was referred to I2Y that I felt I truly belonged. Talking to people who had been, or are going through, what I did in my age bracket was so much easier and satisfying.

I'm 24 and was diagnosed with MDS a month ago. Doctors are perplexed by me because this is a disease mainly of older people- there is very little research about how to treat someone in their twenties. I think I2Y is the only productive group addressing this issue.

I2Y addresses the important issues without being preachy. It's a group that I feel really honored to belong to and will always be a supporter.

Matt and i2y have built an incredible organization (and brand) quickly, primarily by using social media tools to reach their audience. This would be a welcome addition to the panels at sxsw.
Matt did a brilliant job building I2Y and he's a passionate speaker. This will be a highlight for me.

Matthew and i[2]y are filling the gap in the cancer community that has for too long neglected young adults ages 18-40. He has combined social networking, a brilliant website, and marketing tools to reach this under served population in ways that are creative and innovative. Stupid Cancer Rules!

I, like so many of the people here suffered thru my illness in a community that was not familiar with young adult cancer care/wellness. I fought the fight and promised myself I would help to educate/bring together the community for those, my age, fighting this battle. i[2]y is a growing community and really bringing our battle to the front pages! Matt is an inspiration and I am so proud to be a part of this community! You will not go wrong with Matt presenting!

I think what Matt and i2y is doing is groundbreaking. Giving a voice to a population often overlooked in oncology. This just proves to me the power of social media beyond what traditionalist argue it to be. I will be there!

SXSW would be the perfect soapbox for a social health media discussion for our generation. We have been leveraging 2.0 for many verticals- the way we shop, the way we share, the way we learn- it's about time we use it to fix our broken health system. I[2]y is leading this fight, and inspiring others to advocate for themselves and one another. I hope to see this as a panel next year!!

Matt Zachary is one of the people to watch in the emerging world of health 2.0, and many health care professionals are paying attention. My colleagues and I are.

Why? When Matt saw that national survival rates weren't getting better for cancer patients under 40 and resources were few, he did something about it. He used his business savvy, passion and personal experience as a 12-year cancer survivor to create i2y, a resource portal using Web 2.0 tools. Within a year it became one of Time Magazine's "50 Best Web sites" of 2007. There's a lot to learn from this guy. This will be a great panel.

Matthew has lived a series of experiences that would have crippled most, having emerging with an amazing fiber and resiliency. His quest with i2y.org continues to represent perseverance, strength and inspiration for many young people living with cancer... and beyond.

MZ never ceases to amaze me. His drive and ability to achieve what others in the cancer community fail to see. As a cancer survivor I thank god that an organization like this exists and that Matt is the head of it. With him at the wheel we can't go wrong!!

I'm 27, and a THREE time cancer survivor. But guess what? I'm not moping around... woe is me... no, I rock my survivorship. i[2]y is the ONLY group out there that does this! Matthew and I'm Too Young for This would be a perfect fit for SXSW!

Matt is the guru of helping people live their cancer - not be isolated and desperate. Matthew would be an amazing panelist. Go i2y!

i[2]y gave me a voice when I felt like I had no voice. I hope that in the future ,thanks to MZ and i[2]y, no other 27 year old has to sit in a waiting room feeling alone because they are the only person their age they know who is dealing with cancer.

I was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor over 14 years ago. I moped around in frustration and isolation for years because nobody seemed to understand that cancer's effects don't just end after treatment. I[2]y let me know that I was not alone. Matthew Zachary has a golden tongue. When he speaks, people listen. For years now, he has been one of the most prominent advocates for young-adults living with cancer. Matt has a knack for getting the outside to pay attention, whether that be relating to something they can understand, or pressing their buttons enough. Given a can to talk into as big as SXSW, I couldn't imagine how many souls Matt could lift and how many eyes he could open.

Matthew - awesome! Great point about 'click and mortar' access to health. We expect it, we demand it. Where we don't find it, we build it.
Do it today!
