Description:
As the US starts to catch up to Asia and Europe it will rely more on mobile devices. This panel explores how content should be different for a screen that knows where it is and can be carried in your pocket. During SXSW, a group of filmmakers will create a narrative experiment using location tagged video content, and will explore what happens geography links story, rather than time.

This is my panel and I thought perhaps I should add some more detail. This panel will be an experiment in filmmaking using mobile phones. Making movies with a phone is obviously a lot different than for the big screen or your computer. We'll touch on some of the elements to be aware of, and explore. In advance of the panel, we will experiment with actually making a movie using phones and we'll talk about some of our discoveries during the panel.

Living in Europe 6 years ago, I saw advertisement for downloading videos on mobile phones - never thought it would catch on because it wasn't anything like what cinema is. I'd be interested in seeing how to maximize the "film" feel on such a small device.

What a cool idea! With the new technology I can see a rich market for short flicks or episodic material.

check out www.nseries.com, click on the Young Lions Film Competition 2008 down at the bottom. For the past two years at the Cannes Advertising Festival, they've been doing their advertising film competitions with the nokia nseries phones. It's pretty cool to see what people come up with and how inventive they've gotten with it. This past year, they customized some of the phones with fisheye, macro, and widescreen lenses, the macro lenses were AWESOME. The quality isn't amazing (what camera phone is?) but it's pretty good, might give you some more ideas to for your project.

Great, timely topic. Will need to make sure I have my new iPhone in time for this one!

Wow, fascinating, I don't own an iPhone, but I want the US technology to keep up so this a definite subject to be worked upon and thought out.
