Your vote Yes No
Organizer David Parmet , Marketing Begins at Home
Description As wired and net-savvy parents, how can we strike a balance between offering our children the possibilities for global communication, learning and self-expression that the Internet offers while protecting them from the seedier side of the Web? How do we protect our children without resorting to the typical anti-MySpace hysteria promoted by educators and the media? What real possibilities for learning and enrichment exist on the Internet?

Here, here! I am also concerned about the culture of fear that is forming around kids online. How do we make protecting kids online become a default and start focusing on the positive change that is happening and new frontiers those kids are helping us discover online? Paradigms are shifting and te kids are leading the way. Let's not let base paranoia inhibit that. Please let me know if you want to talk further about avenues for this panel. Thanks Joi - I'm really interested in ppl's opinions on this issue - not just parents but web users in general. This could be an interesting panel.

Great panel idea - gets all the more important to me as my own kids get older and as I've started working at home most of the time. I'm fascinated to see what you'll come up with, David, given your own experience as an "Internet guy" working around your kids at home.
