Title:

Old Media Finds New Voice Through Twitter

Description:
Statesman.com and Austin360.com are Twittering news and entertainment daily - and we're not pushing an RSS feed. We're using Twitter the way it is meant to be used: as an interactive, personality-driven tool. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. Is this the life raft for Traditional Media?

Great idea for a presentation. Robert is definitely the person to present this.

Lift raft, indeed! Would love to hear this one.

I've received confirmation that @coloneltribune is going to join our panel! The colonel, who is the popular voice of the Chicago Tribune, is my inspiration for how I've Twittered the @statesman account. Also expected to be on the panel: @omarg, @broylesa, @austin360, @kkingston, @crit.

Just got confirmation for a panel spot from @ericasmith, a graphic designer with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch who follows the newspaper industry and how it uses Twitter with her blog http://graphicdesignr.net/blog/

Thanks for the positive feedback!

Great topic idea! I had a related thought, but not so much about Twitter ... one of my proposed session topics is "Why Austin Stays Wierd And You Should Too." I'm definitely voting for this one!

I have been following Colonel Tribune for several months and the Chicago Tribune finally gets social media!

Heard Robert Quigley at Social Media Camp and follow a number of the Statesman staff on Twitter. They do an excellent job, and I'll definitely be attending this one.

Here's a link to a Mashable piece about how the Chicago Tribune has been able to use social media:

I just followed Chicago's @ColonelTribune yesterday although I'm in Austin, because I'm interested in how news organizations are adapting to social media. I look forward to this panel!

The Colonel, too? He's great to follow on Twitter (I'm @joeyTWOwheels, btw). This would be an entertaining forum.

Statesman folks have been avid experimenters with these tools. I'd be particularly interested in hearing some lessons learned.
