Description:
We all love to speculate how Twitter could/should be monetized. Why not round up some industry experts and let them argue and speculate about it? We'll put Ev Willams and Biz Stone in the front row so they can chuckle at us. :)

Additional info: We argue/debate about this topic at literally every tweetup. Everybody is curious to know Twitter's monetization plan even though they are currently 100% focused on stability and scaling. Should they charge power users? Will they master a peer-to-peer mobile payment system? Let's attack this in an open forum session with a panel of experts and YOU - the audience. I would plan to have multiple back-channels open (Twitter and Meebo) to encourage audience participation.

Great panel idea. This indeed comes up often among Twitter power users. "I would pay for reliable service" is essentially a mantra of the disgruntled fail whale hater. Would I resent banner ads? Yes. Would I buy something from a company who embeds an add/url in a Tweet txt? No. Monetizing Twitter is a fascinating subject. Would love to share some of my theories if your panel makes it. -G.

Clearly Fred Wilson, Biz, et al have plenty of ideas about where Twitter could go. Everyone has an opinion/idea on this.

What will be the goal of this panel? What will I take away from it? A litany of business models?

Most importantly: who will be on the panel that can give the audience insight/feedback on the merit of these ideas? What history to they have innovating business models for novel communications services?

Thanks for posting!

The goal of this panel is to discuss/debate how Twitter should best be monetized. Yes, you'll take away a bunch of different business models - some focused and traditional, some insane, some brilliant - none of which may never happen, but could possibly inspire projects built on top of Twitter's API. My ideal panelists would be the following people:

Greg Swan, Digital / Social Media Strategist at Weber Shandwick Worldwide.

Sarah Lacy, author of "Once You're Lucky, Twice You're Good", silicon valley journalist

Ben Kunz, director of strategic planning at Mediassociates, a media planning, buying, and Internet agency. Also authors ThoughtGadgets.com.

Nate Westheimer, authot at Silicon Alley Insider.
