Description In 2005, IBM Research embarked on another one of its famous Grand Challenges, to build a system that can consume massive amounts of text data and compete in the quiz show Jeopardy. In February of 2011, the Grand Challenge was met. Watson successfully won Jeopardy in a series of games against past champions. But the Watson story does not end in a game of Jeopardy. Such an achievement only further propels imagination and IBM is now working on applying Watson's technology to solve real world problems. This talk will cover how the system behind Watson works as well as other areas where the technology is applicable.
