It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a social sports game! If you look at the Web today, particularly Facebook or MySpace, there are very few opportunities to play casual, social games specifically serving the sports community, yet many fans have expressed a desire for a deeper sports-focused social gaming experience. This panel explores some of the ways in which today's leading online sports games are making their titles more accessible, more addicting and more social to the fans. Whether it's leveraging the power of brands like the NFL, MLB or U.S. Open, incentivizing users with virtual goods, or creating social leagues to compete against friends, these games are leading the online pack.

For years there has been a debate in gaming - Flash or Unity? The primary draw for Flash development was its effectiveness as a creation tool and delivery method, but it's always lacked the 'sex appeal' and graphic power that Unity has infused into the development community. Flash is proven, but Unity is exciting. So, what is a gaming company to do when choosing a platform? QUICKHIT will tell them -- use both. We have done something no other game company can claim -- we have created a product with a 2D (Flash) version and a 3D (Unity) version that talk to each other and can be played together.
This allows more casual users who want to play games for free (2D) and more hard core gamers, who are happy to spend money to advance more quickly or have better quality (3D) to still interact and be part of the same game community. There are technical challenges, but nothing that can't be overcome. This session will offer insight into creating two distinct game versions that offer the same basic game premise.

Looking for a way to get your foot in the door in the business, but worry that you lack the skills needed to score a gig in games? Perhaps you're convinced you wield untold volumes of gaming know-how, but aren't quite sure what door to shove your shoes in? As hapless hippies who've weaseled their way into the industry, we think we can help. From writing about games, to designing games, to playing games, we will explore a host of viable avenues through which one can turn a passion for gaming into a mighty-mighty meal-ticket including: the everyday skills that are essential to finding a solid job, the sort of openings you ought to chase as an entry-level acrobat, and a healthy dose of back-and-forth banter with you, the audience. It should be a wicked-good time.
