I would love to discuss the various ways of not only surviving, but
excelling in the music industry as both artists, managers, labels etc. I would be happy to discuss, and am developing new initiatives for my label as well as outside efforts to promote the following, focusing on the success and future of independent artists. I'd love to speak about this at SXSW 2010.
Our world of music is ever-changing and while companies fold around us, there are a few that are doing it right and even more room for those who can do it even better. It is about ethical record deals, realistic expectations and long-term commitment to the artist and their career.

There is no asset an artist owns that is more valuable to them then their copyrights, particularly for long term economic security. At the same time, nothing can be more confusing than the underlying legal principles of copyright, not the process for protecting and managing this valuable resource. One of the most valuable rights granted by the 1978 Copyright Act was Copyright reversions, but ignorance of this valuable right could cost artists or their heirs millions of dollars, and copyright reversions are beginning to occur. We will explain how artists can protect these valuable interests.

The best way to make money these days in family music is through touring and selling merchandise. More grown up artists are making albums for kids. They're playing kid's music venues during the day and grown-up shows at night. It's a total win. Venues and artists are making money with this new revenue stream. With increasing competition from adult artists, kid's artists need to get much more savvy, ie how their CDs sound and look and how they market themselves. Understanding your audience is key to success; making videos, playing to the educational market and consistently networking. With a good marketing plan, frequent touring, and merchandise, musicians and venues can dive for dollars. Come on in. The water's warm!

features a new theme and new participants. This panel will bring the Record
